History of Joe’s

In 1975, a small group of investors purchased a dusty, red velvet-draped dive in Bailey's Crossroads, VA called Mac's Devil's Inn. They hoped to take advantage of the newly passed liquor-by-the-drink law in Virginia allowing bars in restaurants for the first time. They envisioned a Georgetown-type eatery and watering hole. After gallons of paint, hours of hard work, and successful negotiations with a then third string Redskin quarterback, Joe Theismann's Restaurant opened. It quickly became popular for its great food, friendly service and comfortable good time. As Joe's career progressed, it also became an "I hope I see Joe himself" attraction.

Joe Theismann's has survived the test of time by serving character along with comfort and excellent cuisine. The result has been a loyal following that encompasses "regular" daily customers, visiting tourists, celebrities, and local workers and residents. And what about Joe himself? He is still a major player, dining and talking plays with the public. He visits between ESPN engagements as a sports commentator. He likes the restaurant. It is another place he can go to, you know, talk a lot.
